In todays 2011 Budget, George Osborne revealed that in recognition of high current oil prices, fuel duty will be reduced by 1p per litre from 18.00pm later today.
The rise in fuel duty planned for next week will be delayed until 2012, and the fuel duty escalator that adds 1p to fuel duty on top of inflation each year to be cancelled for the rest of this parliament.
A fair fuel stabiliser to help keep fuel prices down in future is to be funded by an increased levy on oil and gas production.
It's a start but in a country where owning and running a vehcilce is becoming a expensive past time, the small reduction lets say an average of 60p per tank full isn't going to put any smiles back on peoples faces.
