Vauxhall Zafira DPF Failure Problems
The Vauxhall Zafira is one of the more common vehicles for DPF failure problems going by the number of calls we receive on a daily basis.
The Zafira DPF failure problems come in all variants from high mileage vehicles just needing a replacement diesel particulate filter to low mileage short journey vehicles not getting into the regeneration process.
The more common reasons for Zafira DPF problems are running issues with vehicles resulting in blocked Zafira diesel particulate filters such as
EGR Problems – Stuck or fouled EGR components 
When a EGR systems fails it contaminates the inlet with oily “Wet” residues which in turn end up being thrown down the exhaust system and entering the DPF causing the caught carbon to become dense resulting in premature diesel particulate failure.
MAF (Mass Air Flow) Senor Failure also known as AFM (Air Flow Meter)
When a MAF starts to fail it affects the fuelling of the vehicle, the downside of this failure is when the vehicle over fuels it results in un burnt fuel entering the exhaust system again causing early DPF failure.
Turbo Failure
The first signs of turbo failure tend to be an increase in oil consumption as the oil is passing through the turbo oil seals into the exhaust housing and being burnt. This in turn results in oil residue entering the DPF and causing it to become blocked in a very short space of time. The worst case scenario is total turbo failure and turbo components entering the cat or DPF and cause a physical blockage.
These are the more common reasons we are hearing about as well a leaking injectors (over fuelling) sensor problems etc.
Unfortunately when your filter becomes blocked and it will no longer regenerate you WILL require a new DPF but the underlying issues will need to be resolved before fitting a new DPF as the new filter will block in as little as 30 miles as did the original.
