Do you own a Vauxhall Zafira?
If so you may have read about common issues with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), previously covered in our Blogs during Aprl. When the DPF becomes full and clogged up with soot, the vehicle will usually displays the Engine Management Light (EML) and limp mode will activate. To rectify this issue, you would possibly have to visit the dealers to get the code cleared, and also fit a new DPF.

Why is my DPF Blocked?
Your DPF is doing its job. DPF's trap exhaust matter from the exhaust gas of a diesel car, reducing particle emissions. They block for two reasons:
· They have become blocked under normal driving circumstances (anywhere between 40,000-80,000 miles)
· There is an underlying problem with the car.
What Are The Common Zafira Issues?
There are 3 main common issues (excluding high mileage) which result in DPF failure. These are:
· EGR Problems – This contaminates the inlet with oily residues, and blocks the DPF with dense carbon.
· MAF Sensor Failure – This can cause the vehicle to over fuel which in turn, blocks the DPF
· Turbo Failure – Similar to EGR Problems, a failing turbo may allow oil to pass through, and block the DPF. A more serious failure could results in turbo components entering the DPF and cause a physical blockage.
