Water Pumps
What is a water pump?
A water pump is a belt driven device that transfers water from the radiator to the engine, helping to keep it cool. It works as the car engine runs, the fan belt turns, turning the axel at the centre of the water pump.
Common failures of a water pump
Overheating - If you notice over heating on your car chances are that you are suffering from a water pump failure.
Coolant leak - Another sign of a water pump about to go is significant leakage of coolant, if you find any on the road when you are parked up it may be time to get it checked by a mechanic.
Noisy water pump bearings - Noise from water pump bearings can be indicative of impending failure of the system, so get the pump checked out as soon as possible.
Damaged impeller - One of the prime water pump failure symptoms that will only reveal itself through visual inspection is a damaged or corroded impeller.
