About Exhaust

Car exhaust systems effectively move fumes through a series of components, reducing harmful elements before emitting into the air. The various components have different roles when taking the fumes through the system.

The normal route for the fumes is from the engine via a downpipe, through a catalytic converter and/or a diesel particulate filter then through a series of baffles also known as resonators then finally through the exit pipe. The catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter reduce the carbon emissions and also remove any harmful elements from the fumes, the DPF or diesel particulate filter traps any large carbon particles whilst the catalytic converter has a series of precious metals encapsulated that perform a chemical reaction reducing how toxic the fumes are as it passes over them.  The fumes then pass through the resonators or baffles that reduces the high level of sound before the gas exits the car.
